Level 2 DCF Background Screening

The Level 2 DCF Background Screening is a comprehensive criminal background check that includes fingerprint-based checks for:

  • Statewide criminal history records (Florida Department of Law Enforcement).
  • National criminal history records (Federal Bureau of Investigation).

All Level 2 screenings must accompany a Local criminal records check through local law enforcement agencies and search of the sexual predator and sexual offender registries of any state in which the current or prospective employee resided during the immediately preceding 5 years.  This check is processed by the requestor through the HireRight Portal.

Who Requires a Level 2 DCF Background Screening?

A Level 2 DCF Background Screening is required for:

  • University positions under contract with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF).
  • University positions with UF childcare facilities.
  • All summer camps.*
  • Florida 4-H programs (year-round). UF employees who work with youth in Florida 4-H programs will be processed through their respective departments.

Screening Minors

Before screening a minor, obtain a signed Background Screening Consent Form for Minors from both the minor and their parent/guardian.

Screening Requirements & Florida Statutes

Per Florida statutes and DCF guidelines, an employee or a volunteer cannot participate in any of the activities described above until they have been cleared by DCF.

  • Recertification is required every 5 years to maintain eligibility for continuous employment or service. To recertify, the department must submit a screening request form 2 weeks prior to their employees’ or volunteers’ 5-year expiration date.
  • Breaks in service for 90 days or more will require re-screening.
  • When an employee or a volunteer separates from employment or service that requires this type of screening, the person hiring must notify Talent Acquisition & Onboarding (HRSBackgrounds@admin.ufl.edu) within 5 days of the employee’s or volunteer’s date of separation and their affiliation in DCF Clearinghouse in compliance with DCF background screening requirements.

Level 2 DCF Background Screening Process

Step 1: Submit the Request Form

The hiring department submits the Background Screening Request Form below to initiate the process.

Step 2: Collect and Retain Affidavit of Moral Character Forms

The submitting department collects a completed copy of the relevant form below and retains it within their department.

Step 3: Submit Clearinghouse Forms

Submit a completed copy of Clearinghouse Applicant Request Form and Clearinghouse Privacy Policy Acknowledge Form to UF Talent Acquisition and Onboarding. These can be submitted either via fax or through a file upload service such as Dropbox. Do not email these forms.

Step 4: Fingerprinting

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding will notify the department if a fingerprinting appointment is needed. If needed, the candidate will schedule an appointment with Talent Acquisition & Onboarding using the Fingerprinting Appointment Online Scheduler.

  • Fingerprinting before approval may result in extra costs.
  • UF Talent Acquisition will send a confirmation email upon scheduling.

Step 5: Attend the Appointment

The candidate must bring one of the following valid forms of identification to the appointment:

  • Driver’s License
  • State Identification
  • Passport

Step 6: Screening Results

  • Screening results are typically available within 7 to 10 business days.
  • Talent Acquisition & Onboarding will transmit the Background Screening Result and Public Record to the department contact either via fax or DropBox. The department must maintain these documents on file for auditing purposes.
