About Us

We are building a dynamic and sustainable Community of Practice at the University of Florida dedicated to advancing excellence in immigration compliance. Our mission is to bring together staff, faculty, administrators, and external partners, along with peers from institutions across the country, to collaborate, share knowledge, and drive continuous improvement in this complex and ever-evolving field.

By fostering open dialogue and a shared understanding of policies and best practices, we work to streamline compliance processes, reduce institutional risk, and strengthen support for international students, scholars, and employees. Together, we are creating a connected, informed, and proactive community that empowers the University of Florida to navigate immigration compliance with confidence and care.

Our Community Goals

Foster Cross-Organizational Collaboration

  • Goal: Create connections among stakeholders, case managers, peer institutions and policy advocates across different departments, organizations and higher education.
  • Why: Immigration work often requires multidisciplinary collaboration. A CoP helps break down silos and encourages integrated approaches.

Build Capacity and Support Professional Development

  • Goal: Offer learning opportunities and access to up-to-date training for all community members on various topics related to immigration.
  • Why: Professional growth enhances team performance and ensures members are equipped to handle evolving immigration challenges.

Drive Innovation and Policy Influence

  • Goal: Encourage dialogue on systemic issues, collect feedback and propose innovative solutions or policy recommendations.
  • Why: A CoP can serve as an incubator for new ideas and play a role in influencing policy or operational changes.

Facilitate Knowledge Sharing and Best Practices

  • Goal: Establish a platform for members to share expertise, case studies and successful strategies related to immigration processes.
  • Why: Immigration policy and procedures can be complex and fluid. Sharing real-world solutions helps practitioners stay effective and responsive.
